ENCOURAGING ACADEMIC SUCCESS

At St Nicholas’ School we believe that every girl should be given the opportunity to excel across a full range of subjects, whatever her ability.

Our GCSE results are excellent, ranking amongst the best nationally, and our alumni build on this solid foundation to achieve further success in their chosen pathways.  Small class sizes at St Nicholas' School allow our teachers to focus on teaching and learning, providing individual attention to meet the specific needs of each pupil.

At St Nicholas’ School, we are proud of our girls' strong record of achieving success in all areas. We strongly believe that academic success is embedded within a positive attitude towards learning, reflecting our core values that are incorporated within the curriculum and referred to as THRIVE

Our senior curriculum is constantly evolving to ensure variety and incremental growth.

YEARS 7 TO 9 (KEY STAGE 3)

Throughout Years 7, 8 and 9 we offer our pupils a broad curriculum and wide range of experiences, all designed to help them make informed decisions about their GCSE option choices (required towards the end of Year 9).

Senior pupils have the opportunity of learning four languages (French, Mandarin, Spanish and Latin) and the three sciences are studied separately by specialist teachers in their field. All pupils take half-yearly courses in Food Preparation and Nutrition, and Textiles.

"A huge thanks to the Year 10 teaching team. We feel very informed and impressed at the clear expertise of all subject teachers and their dedication. Over the last few years the teaching and pastoral team have enabled our daughter to flourish and we feel very lucky that she is where she is at St Nicks."

SUPPORTING LEARNING IN SENIORS

Drop-in Clinics

At St Nicholas' we offer all our Senior pupils drop-in clinics providing clarification or support regarding a particular topic or unit of work should they require it.

These sessions provide pupils with the opportunity to receive individual attention to address any issues or problem areas that they may have encountered during lessons and for our GCSE pupils to receive further support and guidance on examination technique and problem-solving scenarios.

Curriculum Support

Curriculum Support at St Nicholas’ School is designed to give our pupils a boost in their learning and covers a spectrum of needs, from support within the curriculum to helping those with individual learning difficulties or where English is their second language.

The teaching provides support with literacy, language, comprehension, mathematics, study skills and exam skills.  Sessions are designed to meet the pupil’s specific needs, help them to enjoy learning and to develop a range of strategies to become independent learners. This support is provided by trained staff to meet a pupil's individual needs. Pupils may be tutored in small groups, or they may be given additional help within a lesson.

Our Curriculum Support staff liaise with subject teachers to ensure that pupils receive the support they need in class. Small classes enable subject teachers to provide pupils with additional help and scaffolding for their learning.
